More than half (60 percent) of homeowners believe their own home lost value in the past 12 months, according to the Zillow Q2 Homeowner Confidence Survey. But in reality, 83 percent of homes lost value during that time, the report finds.

However, homeowners are more optimistic about the future, with 81 percent of owners believing their home’s value will increase or stay the same in the next six months. Only 19 percent believe their home will decrease in value.

The survey also finds that many homeowners may be waiting on the sidelines to sell. When asked about future plans to sell, 29 percent of homeowners say they would be at least somewhat likely to put their homes on the market in the next 12 months if they saw signs of a rebound in the real estate market.
