Some Boston real estate owners in financial distress may be getting some relief. According to Banker & Tradesman, the federal government and one of the country’s largest banks plan to expand their efforts to assist homeowners with troubled mortgages. The plan may help as many as 3 million homeowners avert foreclosure. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac said last week that they will accelerate the process for modifying thousands of home loans. Also, Citigroup said it will expand its moratorium on foreclosures and begin a new program to help borrowers who may be facing foreclosure.
