A spectacular Fall has bestowed upon us this year, full of rich color, fresh aromas and mild, sunny weather. I’m sure most Bostonians crave the mountains of New Hampshire or Vermont, as the Fall time-clock ticks away, hungry to take in all the beauty and Fall activities before the Winter months set in.
I have some great news for those outdoorsy Bostonians! You don’t have to drive 2-3 hours to enjoy the hiking, biking, canoeing and relaxing strolls through the forest. There are many hidden treasures throughout the Greater Metro Boston area. You’ll feel like you’ve been transported out, into the back-country of VT, but without the 3 hour drive there and back!
The Middlesex Fells Reservation is the perfect outdoor get away. With 11 main trails and dozens of off-the-beaten path roads, there are weeks worth of trails to wonder and an endless amount of wildlife and vegetation, to discover and enjoy.
For those living in Downtown Boston, North End or Waterfront, you are just a quick 15 minute ride on 93 N. Take exit 33 and follow Main Street to the Sheepsfold Entrance. There are also Picnic tables for those who plan to spend the whole day in the trails. For more information about canoe rentals and detailed trail maps, visit the information center at 4 Woodland Road, Stoneham, MA. They have free black & White trail Maps and colored trail maps for $5. There is a boat rental company adjacent to the information center, where you can rent canoes daily. Check with them for their rates.
