Most Americans would like the expected economic stimulus plan to include spending on transportation and infrastructure, according to a new survey by the National Association of REALTORS® and Transportation for America.
The survey finds that 80 percent of Americans believe the proposed economic stimulus package should include plans to repair existing highways and build public transit rather than build new highways. In fact, nearly half of survey respondents (45 percent) said construction of new highways should “definitely” or “probably” not be in the plan.
NAR President Charles McMillan says REALTORS® share the public’s feelings. “REALTORS® build communities, and believe smarter transportation and infrastructure development will help create more livable and vibrant neighborhoods,” McMillan says.
